Following his concerns that the community in Louth will be facing serious food issues as the Coronavirus crisis kicks in harder as the weeks continue, Mayor of Louth, Councillor Fran Treanor, has taken the decision to donate £1,000 from his own Mayor’s Charity Fund to the Louth Food Bank Community Larder based at the Trinity Centre.
The Mayor had no hesitation in making his decision saying “Many people in Louth who are unable to work now due to the lockdown are going to face tough times and if I can help, I’m pleased to do so.”
Rector of Louth, Rev’d Canon Nick Brown who is a part of Churches Together that run and fund the Food Bank, said “The Community Larder is hugely grateful for the support it has received, and thanks the Mayor for his donation to help it serve those in need. After a significant increase in demand, the Larder is once again reasonably stocked – and able to support those who need it. The Larder is only able to operate thanks to the generosity of all those who support it – and we thank everyone who enables us to do this valuable work in our community.”
Cllr Treanor, who was due to hand over as Mayor in May this year, will now be continuing with his duties for an extra four months or until a suitable and safe public meeting can be called and held.
